Synopsis from Goodreads:

A Near Future Retelling of Beauty and the Beast

Alainn’s father is not a bad man. He’s a genius and an inventor. When he’s hired to create the robot Rose, Alainn knows taking the money is a mistake.

Rose acts like a human. She looks exactly like Alainn. But, something in her comes out wrong.

To save her father from a five year prison sentence, Alainn takes Rose’s place. She says goodbye to the sun and goes to live in a tower no human is allowed to enter. She becomes the prisoner of a man no human is allowed to see.

Believing that a life of servitude lies ahead, Alainn finds a very different fate awaits her in the company of the strange, scarred recluse.

Why did it take me so long to read this? This book is so good, so damn good and so underrated. I loved it! I loved everything about it, the characters, the plot, the fact its a Beauty and the Beast retelling with AI and robots, which is definitely the retelling I didn’t think I needed but definitely did. I mean, there’s monkey robots and they’re adorable! I would very much like a monkey robot now.

The only thing that would have made this better would be more chapters from Lorccan’s POV, and maybe one from Blue’s POV, they’re my favourite characters. I think it would have been cool to see things from Blue’s perspective. I might just be biased though because I’m obsessed with the robot monkeys. Did I mention I loved it? I can’t believe more people aren’t talking about it. I’m off to add everything by Rita Stradling to my TBR.
