Synopsis from Goodreads:
Lyra. Lucy. Percy. Once in a generation, a hero emerges whose story enthralls readers worldwide.
Fireborn is an epic quest, perfect for fans of the His Dark Materials and The School for Good and Evil series, that will spin readers into a magical world like no other–and introduce them to an unforgettable new heroine named Twelve.
Ember is full of monsters.
Twelve gave up her name and identity to train in the art of hunting them–so she says. The truth is much more deadly: she trains to take revenge on those who took her family from her.
But when Twelve’s new home is attacked, she’ll find herself on an unexpected journey, where her hidden past is inescapably intertwined with her destiny–and the very fate of her world.
I received a free review copy from Harper Collins in exchange for an honest review. I later joined the blog tour using the same copy.
Where do I start? Please read Fireborn, you won’t regret it! I was completely blown away from the very first page. I knew I was going to love Fireborn after reading the synopsis, I wasn’t prepared for just how much I would, though. First off, Twelve has a squirrel called Widge, so adorable! I was sold by that alone. Magic, hunters, a Guardian called Dog, danger around every corner and a variety of magical creatures to satisfy any reader. What’s not to love? Seriously, would love to hang out with a moxie called Foxpaw and drink tea. Tell me I’m not the only one?
After the walls of the Hunting Lodge are breached and a Huntling is kidnapped, Twelve leaves the lodge to rescue them, picking up Dog and two fellow Huntlings along the way. What follows is a journey full of magic, danger and friendship and it is glorious! Cannot get enough of this book! I don’t even know to properly review it, I loved it so much my mind is just a jumble of thoughts. I love the relationship dynamic between Twelve, Five and Six and how it evolves through the book. I particularly enjoyed Twelve’s character development, finding what makes her tick, how she ended up training to become a hunter. There’s so much more to her than what’s on the surface and I loved finding out more about her. I think Dog deserves a special shoutout, he’s brilliant, I think he might be my favourite. Not that I’m biased as a dog lover or anything. I don’t want to give too much away, trust me, Fireborn is an incredible and unputdownable read!
I highly recommend giving Fireborn a read, it’s perfect for any reader of fantasy! I’ll definitely be rereading it asap!
