Blog Tour: The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys

Happy Wednesday, Book Dragons!

Today is my stop on the blog tour for ‘The Fountains of Silence’ by Ruta Sepetys. I was intrigued after reading the blurb so when I received an email inviting me to a virtual blogger event, I jumped at the chance! I love listening to authors talk about their work and Rita is no exception.

Happy Reading!

The event started with an introduction from Carmen McCullogh, editorial director at Penguin Random House and Ruta’s editor. This was followed by a Q&A chaired by Carmen, ending in a reading and questions from attending bloggers.

Ruta Sepetys is an international bestselling author of Salt to the Sea, Between Shades of Grey and Out of the Easy, published in 60 countries and 40 languages. Ruta Sepetys has also been shortlisted for over 40 book prizes and won the Carnegie Medal in 2017 with Salt to the Sea. Ruta is also on one of Lithuania’s postal stamps, which I think is amazing! The Fountains of Silence has also been shortlisted for this year’s Carnegie.

Ruta talked about her book, shared stories about her family, research, readers she has met over the years, it was a privilege to get to listen to them.

My questions:

Being and author of historical fiction, are there any YA books you would recommend to those new to the genre?

A Norther Light by Jennifer Donnelly, published under A Gathering Light in the UK. Jennifer is repped by my agent and he said ‘I want you to read this book’ and I just loved it. Ruta also recommended Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein.

Was there a particular book you read as a child that made you want to become an author?

Oh, so many! I loved Daphne Du Maurier stories and there was this story called The Apple Tree. (This story sounds amazing and I’ll definitely be reading it asap!)
