Synopsis from Goodreads:

Lisa is running.
She has taken her child, Jack, and she has run from his father.

Lisa thinks she’s safe.
She’s found a remote house where no one will be able to find them.

Lisa is about to wake up in her worst nightmare.
And now she must face what she’s tried to escape.

Risking everything to protect her little boy, Lisa knows that in order to survive she will have to fight, but it’s hard to face someone you loved, especially someone you still love, who knows who you really are – and what you are really capable of.

Family is everything. What would you do to protect it?

Trigger warnings:

  • Animal murder – The event is not witnessed, the reader is only privy to the aftermath, though it’s mentioned several times after.
  • Abuse – both child and adult
  • Assault
  • Arson

Where do I start?? I’m fairly new to this genre, especially in adult fiction. When the email dropped in my inbox I just knew I had to read it and immediately signed up for the blog tour. It wasn’t always an easy read, the author’s writing style is so compelling, the plot so good, you can’t help but read on.

You know a thriller is good when you not only can’t put it down, you start questioning everything you thought you knew. What I Did is full of twists and turns I didn’t see coming, every change seems logical, and just when you start to truly believe something the author drops another twist. There’s one point in the book (no spoilers) where a jump in the timeline happened with no warning or announcement, I could not get enough of it! I thought that was particularly clever as it highlighted how easy it was to read something, connect the dots together and come to the wrong conclusion.

Overall I really enjoyed this one, I’ve been wondering what happened to everyone after the book ends since I finished it. What I Did is gripping, clever and has all the key elements to keep you guessing from start to finish, I’ll definitely be checking out their other works.
