YALC 2019: YALC Tips

IMG_20180805_161411_587Hello, fellow book lovers!

I can’t believe YALC weekend is just around the corner. This will be my third year going to YALC/LFCC, I’m both excited and nervous. I thought I would share some of my tips to help you prepare and get through the weekend as smoothly as possible. I hope you find some of it helpful!

Bring cash: Some booths accept cards, though Wi-Fi isn’t always reliable so it’s handy to have cash to fall back on or use at cash only booths. There are ATMs in the building, though there’s long queues and can be empty towards the end of the weekend. Autographs down in LFCC are cash only, too.

Bring a suitcase: Trust me, your back will thank you for it. Last year was so much easier because I wasn’t carrying a backpack or totes of books and swag around. You’re allowed to keep it with you, there is also a cloakroom if you want to leave it somewhere safe, they charge by the item though.

Don’t forget a pen: This might sound like an odd one, ARC’s are usually done with a raffle system now. By lunchtime you can’t work out what each ticket is for, which is where the pen comes in handy.

Bring your own food and drink: Food and drink is expensive inside (no surprise there) and is also limited. There is a Tesco Express opposite, by Saturday afternoon it’s limited and pretty much empty by Sunday. Bring a reusable bottle, the cafe will refill it for free.

Post-it note your books in advance: Most of the time there is someone around to do this while queuing, it helps and saves time to do this beforehand (and you know your name is spelt correctly, too).

Have fun and make friends: This is the most obvious one and I’m confident that you will!

  1. I knew I forgot something! I forgot to pack a pen and now it’s in my tote bag ready for Friday! Cannot wait for YALC this year!
