General bookish fun, Tag

Tag: Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag

Hello!

How are we halfway through the year already?! I found this over at Fantastic Books and Where to Find Them and thought it would be fun to do it again this year. I hope you enjoy and feel free to join in!

IMG_l4fuor.jpg1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2019

Ooooh, The Wicked King, The Familiars, The Fandom Rising, Song of Sorrow, Gumiho: Wicked Fox and Stepsister. I know thats six but I can’t pick just one, they’re all brilliant! Read them all! I’m terrible at this…

IMG_20190110_140110_286.jpg2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019

The Wicked King, it is everything! I love Cardan and Jude, that ending! Just typing this makes me want to immediately pull it out to re-read. If you haven’t read these already, I highly recommend them and everything written by Holly!

3. New release you haven’t read yet but want to

How long have you got? I’m so behind, it’s not even funny! Finale, Red Scrolls, Contender: The Chosen.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

D.O.G.S. by M.A. Bennett! I loved S.T.A.G.S. and been eagerly awaiting the sequel ever since, it’s going to be epic!

5. Biggest disappointment

I really don’t like naming them, especially when books are so subjective. Without naming, there was one a couple of months ago that didn’t handle sexual assault/attempted rape well. I couldn’t finish it and DNF’d around halfway through.

IMG_20190226_122132_585.jpg6. Biggest surprise

Grave Mercy. I knew I would like it, didn’t think I would love it. When the series was brought out with new snazzy covers it was compared to Throne of Glass. By now everyone knows how much I love SJM books, so this had the potential to completely backfire. I couldn’t get enough of it!

7. Favourite new author (Debut or new to you)

Susan Dennard! I’d heard brilliant things about her books but only started reading The Witchlands series this year, why did no one tell me to read these sooner?! They’re SO good!

8. Newest fictional crush

Ummm, I don’t know?

IMG_20190531_175421_964.jpg9. Newest favourite character

Alex from Alex in Wonderland and Miyoung from Gumiho: Wicked Fox hands down. I adore them both for different reasons and both have stayed with me after turning the last page. I highly recommend both books!

10. Book that made you cry

The Fandom Rising, it’s a spoiler so I can’t say why. You’ll know it if/when you read it.

11. Book that made you happy

Alex in Wonderland, I’m not giving anything away, read it though and you’ll see.

12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year

The Umbrella Academy! Both graphic novel and adaptation are incredible!

13. Favourite review you’ve written this year

I’m overly critical of what I write and refuse to look at anything after a proof read. I think it’s my review of Gumiho: Wicked Fox though, I’m really proud of it.

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

Priory of the Orange Tree, have you seen the cover? It’s stunning!

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff, Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu. I know, I still haven’t read a single Jay Kristoff book…

I Tag:

I’m keeping this as an open tag for anyone who wants to do it.

  1. Nevernight is certainly on my TBR too! I feel like there is a lot of hype around Jay Kristoff’s writing so I’m excited to hopefully read one of his books soon and see if I enjoy it as much as everyone else does!
