Event, General bookish fun

Event: An Evening With Giovanna and Tom Fletcher

On June 1st I went along to the London Eve Of Man event in At James’s Church in Piccadilly, hosted by Waterstones and was chaired by the wonderful Katie Webber, author of Wing Jones and the upcoming Only Love Can Break Your Heart. If you haven’t read it yet, you really should. As soon as I saw the event announcement on the Waterstones twitter account, I knew had to go and grabbed a ticket straight away. I’ve been looking forward to getting my hands on this book and I couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to meet them and listen to them talk about it. Especially after Tom’s event at the end of last year, which was amazing!

For the first portion of the event Katie asked Tom and Gi about the book, where the inspiration came from, on writing as a couple including their writing processes, both in their own and as a couple and very slightly touched on the next book. Katie asked them how they approached writing from dual perspectives and writing for a different audience, Tom wrote Bram’s POV and Gi wrote Eve’s POV, which I found incredibly interesting. I found myself laughing through most of the talk, they’re hilarious together. Everything they said made me even more excited to read it.

After the talk Katie opened up the floor for audience questions. When asked if there were plans for any of their books to be adapted for either TV or film, Tom briefly told us about the animated adaptation of The Christmasaurus, which I’m extremely excited about. It’s being directed by Michael Gracey, who also directed The Greatest Showman. I have a good feeling about it and I’m extremely excited to see it when it’s out. I adore the book. They also said family and friends who read Eve of Man said it should be adapted for film. The whole talk was incredibly interesting and insightful. I’ll definitely be going to their panel at YALC in July.

After, Gi and Tom then went off for a short break while the stage was being set up for the signing. I brought some books from Home to get signed as there was a three book limit. Gi kindly signed my copy of the musical edition of The Christmasaurus, I thought she was brilliant in the stage production and hoped she wouldn’t mind signing it too. They’re both so lovely and friendly, I got to chat to them about dinosaurs and our excitement for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. They kindly posed for photos, which made my day. Massive thanks to Holly from Waterstones events team for taking photos for fans. I had the best time ever!

  1. Sounds like you had an amazing time! I love it when there are events like this. 😀 I’ve never read one of their books, but I’m really curious, especially since each one is in charge of their part of the story and it’s clear who wrote what. I’m really curious and I’ll definitely check out their books. Thank you for sharing!
