Review: Wunderkids by Jacky Silvester

D18CCF64-B8A6-4FAD-9194-73FEA24C7D6DSynopsis from Goodreads:

15-year-old Nikka is invited to attend Wildwood Academy, a prestigious but secret boarding school for talented youth located deep in the Californian mountains. Once there, Nikka quickly falls in love with her bizarre classes, the jaw-dropping scenery and… two very different boys.

However, Wildwood Academy has a dark and twisted secret, one that could cost Nikka the one thing she had never imagined she could lose, the one thing that money can’t buy. It is this very thing that Wildwood Academy was created to steal.

Nikka can stay and lose everything, or she can risk death and run.

My rating:

★★★★★

I do love a good YA set in a boarding school so I knew I had to read this when I first heard about it. I was hooked from the start! Wunderkids is the brilliant debut from Jacqueline Sylvester. The story follows Nikka as she starts at the prestigious Wildwood Academy, a school for talented students after receiving a full scholarship. To start with Nikka is in awe of Wildwood, it’s grounds, classes and food. She’s made awesome friends and is generally having a fabulous time, though, as time passes Nikka begins to realise things and people are not as they seem and slowly unearths the schools dark and sinister secrets.

Like I said earlier, I was hooked from the start. I couldn’t put it down and by the end I was on the edge of my seat hoping it would never end. It’s grippingly tense, full of twists and turns that leave you questioning everything and everyone. I love Jacqueline’s writing style, she doesn’t waste time getting to the point which is something I love. The plot is adrenaline fuelled and fast paced, there are plenty down moments interspersed throughout to organise your thoughts. For me, the highlight was the character development, I love how people paths crossed and friendships were formed. That cliffhanger at the end, I need book two asap! I can’t recommend Wunderkids enough. Honestly, just read it!

  1. I had seen this book a few days ago and wondered about it, so it is nice to see some more info on it. Definitely sounds like a good read, may have to add it to my own TBR eventually.
