“In this breathless third installment to Victoria Aveyard’s bestselling Red Queen series, allegiances are tested on every side. And when the Lightning Girl’s spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother’s web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner.
As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare’s heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.
When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.”
I have enjoyed this series immensely from the start – King’s Cage is the third instalment in the Red Queen series continuing where Glass Sword ended, with Mare imprisoned by King Maven.
This was one of my most anticipated 2017 reads and it did not disappoint, this series gets better with each book, the whole series is well worth reading!
The start was a little slow at times and took longer to get in to than the previous books, one thing I particularly enjoyed was seeing more from other characters perspective, especially Maven’s and reading some of his backstory which somewhat changed my perspective of him, leaving me questioning many things about who he really is and whether he is truly ‘lost.’
I love Mare’s resilience, no matter how dire things get she never gives up, never turns her back on the war, even when she is offered a way out.
I thoroughly enjoyed the plot development, the new and strange alliances between nations and blood, this part feels like a stepping stone, paving the way for (hopefully) even more explosive events yet to come which I cannot wait to read.
All I can say is, this is definitely one for your TBR’s, I cannot recommend this book and series enough!
